Working at Home

How cool is it to not leave the confines of your home, work from there at your own pace and bidding, and earn in the process? Home-based professions are good options to consider, and if you are diligent enough, compensation is good.

Contrary to common knowledge, working from home is not the lazy way out of having to snake through traffic, getting screamed at by the boss, and being involved in office gossip. On second thought, it sounds more peaceful to work from home given those scenarios.

The drawback of working from home though is that you never get away from work. Unless you are the workaholic type who is always on the go, this stresses some people. Also depending on your personal mood and motivation to be productive, the bed beside the desktop computer is just so tempting, beckoning you to take more zzz's.

In the end, it is up to you to strike that balance and have a workable timetable. To get you started, here are some jobs you can do right at home:

Copywriting - JK Rowling earned her millions telling bedtime stories to her kids, writing on napkins while traveling, and most likely, have with her a trusty word processor, lots of free time, an imaginative mind, and a dash of coffee to keep the inspiration running. You could do that too but on a lesser scale. Related tasks include transcription, copy editing, and providing online content.

Desktop Publisher - for simple layout and graphic needs, a desktop publisher comes in handy. Repertoire include calling cards, newsletters, print ads, invitations, and any project that can be handled by one up to three people. Either that or the client is on a tight budget. Similar jobs are web designer and Flash animator.

Consultant - a consultant is a broad term in itself. Anything that needs consultation and analysis can be done at home. In the same field could be virtual assistant, public relations specialist, counselor, and paralegal.

Call-based jobs - if you have a landline, net connection, and either have a knack for solutions or an expert in language and grammar, you could do call-based jobs like long distance offline language tutorial or be a home-based customer service representative.
