Posted in Career Education
Online degrees seem to be catching on among people who wish to improve their education or enhance their skills and chances at job opportunities. But are they any good? Would they provide a distinct advantage for people wishing to land better job opportunities? Here are some of the things that you should know about online degrees or online distance learning programs.
Online Learning Advantages
There are various advantages that one may get from online learning programs. This would especially be welcome for current employees who wish to continue advancing their education but may be hampered by their full-time jobs.
With online learning courses, people may be able to continue studying at their own pace without having their performance suffer, both at work and in studying, during the whole process. A big advantage is that people can start to become more productive by getting added knowledge while still making a living.
Online Learning Disadvantages
One of the disadvantages of online learning is that its students may lack from personal interaction with other students. The best way they can interact with others is through their PC monitors which can sometimes seem too impersonal to some.
The challenge may also lie in the fact that online students may not be interacting personally with a teacher or an expert for real time advice if ever they have questions. Another disadvantage of getting online degrees is that some may turn out to be false or fake. There are some dubious institutions that are offering online degrees for a fee that turn out to be non-accredited or fake.
Employer Perception Of Online Degrees
Probably what is more important for many people wishing to get online degrees is if they can be of any use to them, especially when its time to look for new jobs. Being a new program, online learning seems to be something that most employers are not yet that familiar with. Some may still rely on college degrees achieved through traditional programs.
But the best thing about it is that more and more employers are becoming more aware of online degrees and online learning programs. As this awareness grows, more and more of them would be able to accept the credibility of online degrees which may prove quite an advantage for those people who have them.
