Know what you want to achieve.

Getting career counseling just because you seem to require some help in handling your professional life may not be enough for it to be effective on your part. The reason why people get into such counseling sessions is that there is still something that they want to achieve or accomplish. It is important that you have this "something" already in mind. It will give your counseling sessions with more direction and be more effective.

Be open to challenges.

One way that career counseling does is help offer you some challenges that may help you learn how to do more and better than you think you can. But you need to become more open to accept such challenges. Shying away from them would only make matters more difficult not only for you but how effective your career counselor may be able to help you.
