Great Blue Collar Jobs

Posted in Job Market

In an economic situation offering a dismal view of the future, work may become scarce for many white collar workers. But the good thing is that there would be a continuing demand for many blue collar jobs. Although such jobs are considered appropriate for those who have minimal qualifications in terms of education and skills, they are in fact jobs that also require a certain set of skills and certifications.

Blue collar jobs can be physically demanding and may pay lower wages than white collar job openings. But there have recently been a considerable lack of white collar jobs due to the dire economic situation today. In contrast, blue collar jobs may still be available and there are some that would even offer decent pay as well as offer better opportunities for people looking for work in a dismal job market. Here are some of them:

Highway Maintenance Worker

For a government blue collar job, this definitely won't disappear any time soon. Considering that roads require constant maintenance and upkeep and that cars would still be around despite the recession, the job would still be required and openings will be available. Those who may be considered for the job will be the physically able and willing to sweat it out in the sun most of the time. This job pays a decent wage starting at US$15 per hour.

Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic

This is another blue collar job that won't be going out soon. As many companies, buildings as well as homes, are striving to save on electricity and become more environment friendly, installing new air conditioning and refrigeration systems would still go on. After installation, such machines in the offices and homes may still require periodic maintenance, making this blue collar job always in demand. Certification may be needed for this type of blue collar job that can pay around US$18 an hour.

Computer and Office Machine Repairer

Although job openings at offices might become scarce, companies might still need their office machines working perfectly even with a limited workforce. And this requires people who know to maintain and repair such machines in case they break down. This blue collar job might always be in demand and may be worth considering if the individual has considerable knowledge of computer and office machine repair. Such repairmen can earn decent wages starting at US$17 an hour.
