Preparing for Performance Review

Posted in Job Performance

Employee who have just passed their job interview must remember that they also have to pass their performance review. Though they may have landed the position that they truly wanted, there is still more proving left to do. In fact, the proving never stops there.

Showing how valuable you are to the company is important. Aside from the way you approach your work, you still have to accomplish several things. Be aware that your own review may affect your daily activities, future assignments, and even your salary. You have to do your best from day one.

Summarizing the achievements you made

For sure, within the span of three to twelve months, you have already accomplished something that you can consider as your achievements regarding work and the company goals. It will be the same as highlighting your accomplishments in your resume. As much as possible, quantify them if needed and mention the results.

Presenting your accomplishments

In showing your accomplishments, you may want to use a binder that will serve as your career portfolio. That is where you must put your items showing what you have accomplished. It may be best to have them organized. Make a table of contents for it, even layout pages or captions, if necessary.

Be sure to make your agenda as detailed as possible

Another best thing that you can do here is to prepare a detailed list of what you like to present. This has to be different from the agenda the manager is going to present. So the discussion will not only focus on your boss's presentation.

Preparation may also be a great way to go on a performance review, but that may not be enough. Attitude counts here as well. Whatever criticism is thrown at you, accept it as it is and try not to be defensive.

In addition to this, equate the listening you do with your talking. From there you can have an even more better relationship with your boss knowing you have done so much, even in your performance review, to prove yourself that you can do the job.
