Common Recession Job Hunting Mistakes
Posted in Job Search Advice
The current recession has led to a lot of employees being laid off in order for many companies and businesses to stay afloat. Many people becoming unemployed is further worsened by a shrinking job market that seem not to provide more job openings for those people who find themselves in the unemployment line once again.
With the job market having fewer and fewer jobs available, there is bound to be greater competition among job seekers in trying to get whatever job there is available. In situations like these, there should be no room for mistakes. But in times of recession and financial troubles, it can be easy for job seekers to make the following mistakes while job hunting.
Showing Desperation
It can be easy for job seekers to show their desperation when out looking for a job especially if they need it very badly. But this can work against them most of the time. Some job seekers can become so desperate that they are willing to take on anything for a job. That is why they try to apply for almost every other job available out there.
It is always important for job seekers to hide their desperation when going out looking for work. They should still try to seek jobs that are well suited for them and spend some time looking for such jobs. Narrowing down the possible choices not only can save time but also avoid the stress and the rejection that comes with a job that one is not qualified for.
Poor Interview Preparation
Another mistake that many job seekers make is by not preparing themselves for interviews. They do not bother to know more about the type of business or what the company is currently doing. Sometimes job seekers just don't know how to get their point across during interviews.
All these may lead to making a poor impression on interviewers that can be a cause of not getting the job. It pays for job seekers to prepare for the interview by researching in what the company is doing as well as having prepared answers to possible questions that may be asked during the interview.
Not Using All Available Resources
Many job seekers have problems looking for work because they just don't try to tap whatever resources that may be available to them. It might not be because they don't want to but simply that they just sometimes fail to notice them. One of such untapped resourced would be one's own school.
Many of the career departments in universities also cater to alumni of different graduating years. Those who may have graduated a long time ago fail to tap into this possible resource that may lead them to other possible job openings.
