Establishing a network is something becoming more and more important these days. Having a network of friends, colleagues or people of like minds can help you in many aspects of your career and profession, most notably in trying to land better jobs and getting more opportunities career wise. Here are some tips to help you build a better network and never be bothered about it.

Don't be shy.

You might already have a network but may still be quite reserved in trying to take advantage of it. The only way that you may be able to take advantage of having a network is if you try to let go of your reservations of trying to call someone you know to know about job openings or other opportunities they might know. Especially in hard economic times such as now, you network may be expecting a word from you and they might welcome to lend a hand if they can.

Change your mindset about networking.

Some people tend to create a network only composed of like minded professionals who they think would be of great help to their career. But it may be a mistake trying to limit your network to a certain category. It is also important to establish networks other than just people belonging to a certain category. Having different networks may offer you varied options that you may appreciate later on.

Remember that networking is not always just about you.

Networking is actually a give and take relationship between the people that belongs to it. You may establish a network with the purpose of having people who might someday be of great help to you. But in the same way, expect some people from your network to ask for help from you and never hesitate to extend the same help that you might want to receive.
