Finding a job might mean going through the classifieds for most people. But there are other ways that you may be able to find out about an attractive job opening without having to go through the grueling process sifting through the job classifieds just to find one. You can make use of your network in order to know about jobs that they may know would be up your area.
A network can be a valuable tool to use when looking for a job. It can also be the most convenient means to do so. It can be as easy as letting your network of contacts know that you are looking for a job and then you are set. How extensive you network is can determine how fast your contacts may provide you with job opportunities that are worth considering. By using your network, you are using your leverage or "people machinery" to work for you in order to help you find employment opportunities.
One of the most effective means of finding employment through your network is to know whom to approach. Your own network of contacts can comprise of a large group of people that can sometimes number in the hundreds. It would be good if you can further organize these contacts into groups that you think they might belong to.
You can either group them into their areas of expertise or in their own designations. But the important thing here is that getting them organized will help you know who to prioritize first. Getting a certain group of people in your chosen field to help you look for job opportunities out their might be more effective than letting your entire network know about it.
If you think that you don't have the right network of people who can help you with your job search, there are always "instant networks" that may be able to help you out. One of them would be your own alumni association. This would surely include a number of professionals in your field that you have known in college that may just be able to help you out.
You can also try to check out certain professional organizations in your field that you can try to become a member of. Being part of such an organization will give you a means to further enhance your job search through your network.
