Most people would seriously consider reading through their resume maybe once or twice. However, if you're not careful, you might end up erring on the side of complacency.
You should check your resume once or twice every now and then aside from having it proofread so that you'll be able to effectively present yourself in the most accurate manner possible.
Whatever it is you are trying to accomplish, be sure that your resume clearly says that to the one who is reading it. You can start with some pointers that we'll be discussing in this article:
Opening your objectives
You should be able to communicate to the potential employer and the one who is reading your resume what you are really looking for at the moment.
If, let's say, you're not really looking for a definite niche in the job market and you want to keep your options open, you might want to include that in your objective statement. What this does is it does not exactly tie you up to any particular position.
This way, your resume will be able to accommodate several positions that may have use of the skills and experience that you have highlighted. This type of objective statement is best for the jobs which are open to having people with different types of experience.
Conversely, if you want to be able to apply to something more specific, then you might have to go the opposite direction and focus on the different strengths that you have in making a resume that is suited to your prospective company. What should be included in this is a targeted career goal.
This is best suited for jobs which are looking for a set of job qualifications and requirements. Hiring managers are able to understand what you want in a career and how you're going to get there.
What's the buzz?
You have to know what particular keywords or buzzwords that are being used at the moment for your particular industry. You should know that specific keywords which apply to your career and industry are the most frequently used. You might also want to add specific buzzwords which might help you rank high in electronic searches.
Examples of these buzzwords that are related to job titles are "sales manager" or "network administrator". Skills might also include "project management" or "HTML". The bottom line is, you should fill them in on what you're all about from the get go.
These are just a couple of things to get you started. Prepare your resume, send and wait.
