Low Salaries That Might Surprise You
Posted in Salary & Benefits
Jobs have different pay rates and it doesn't necessarily depend on how challenging or how easy the job is. Some people think that some jobs might pay more because they seem to be quite more difficult to do than the usual ones. But surprisingly there are some jobs that just don't offer pay according to the challenges that they offer. Here are some of them.
Commercial Fishermen
No, they are not the sport fishing type but those who struggle to catch fish on a commercial fishing boat. The job that commercial fishermen go into takes some skill as well as muscles in order to bring fish and other seafood into your table. They can also be risky since work at sea usually entails working under uncertain weather where storms and large waves are frequent.
By looking at the risks and the challenges that such a job requires day in and day out, you might think that the pay may be quite good. But unfortunately, commercial fishermen only get around $28,280 annually. Surprisingly, it might not be worth the risk for some people. It's a good thing that there are still people willing to take on the job despite its pay and continue to bring on the fishes in the market.
Construction and Maintenance Painters
For some, painting might seem quite an easy job to do. But for construction and maintenance painters, it can be a different thing. What they do is more than just painting walls and ceilings.
Construction and maintenance painters usually work those areas that can be quire risky. They paint building exteriors, bridges, as well as roofs and high ceilings, not just your typical four walls at home. There is a higher level of risk involved. And who would think that such a job that involves risk as well as tasks that not everyone may find interesting would provide only a $35,230 yearly pay? That's less than the national average of around $42,500.
HVACR Mechanic
Heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration or HVACR mechanics install, repair and maintain such units found in residential and commercial areas. And with HVACR units considered as necessities for any living space or area, demand for their upkeep and maintenance should always be in demand. Getting a mechanic to do the job can cost people a lot since the expenses for repairing ventilation or refrigeration units can add up to quite a considerable sum.
It might be easy for people to think that, because of the considerably high charges for repairing or maintaining HVACR units, mechanics do have it good when it comes to their salaries. But the opposite rings true. On average, HVACR mechanics only earn around $40,630 a year, still below the $42,500 national annual mean salary. One of the main reasons is that HVACR mechanics have to deal with the costs of the parts, transportation and other expenses that eat up into their earnings.
